House Plants For Indoor Gardening

There are thousands of house plants you can grow indoors. Although some fancy tropical species are better suited to a terrarium or conservatory, many other species have been bred to survive in conditions of low light and dry heat. Plants can be grouped into two broad categories: flowering and foliage plants. A few popular houseplants include orchids, geraniums, ferns, and African violets. These plants are not only attractive but they can also increase the size of a room by magnifying it.

Water your house plants regularly. A few weeks between waterings is fine for most houseplants. However, if you plan on being away from your home for weeks at a time, you should water them at least twice a week. Keeping a lid on your containers is another option. If you can’t keep an eye on them, you can place them in a sunny window or a shady spot. If your houseplants are not used to being watered regularly, try taking them with you when you travel.

When grouping houseplants, think about their needs and preferences. For example, if they all need moist soil, group them together. Or, if you want a bushier effect, group plants with similar light and temperature needs. This way, a moist pocket will be created. In addition, grouping houseplants with similar water needs will prevent a plant from struggling in a plant that requires more light or shade.

When it comes to light, houseplants require high, medium, and low light. Direct light is best, but they can tolerate medium light as well. However, they can survive in low-light conditions if given the right conditions. House plants that need low light can do well in windows that face the east or west. But, if they don’t get enough light, you should use artificial light instead. If you have a sunny window, place the lamps in such a way that the light is reflected off the windows and not directly on the plants.

If you are unsure about the exact amount of water your houseplants need, you can look at the soil color to determine the moisture level. It will change color from dark brown to pale beige. But, you should be careful to water your houseplants on a regular basis because they may not be able to handle it. To tell if they need water, you can lift their pot and check if the soil is moist or dry.

Many houseplants require constant water, but the humidity level in the room is similar to their natural conditions. Even the temperature can vary. In fact, temperatures may fluctuate ten degrees during the night. If the temperature is too high, you should consider relocating them to a cooler area. If the temperature drops dramatically, your houseplants may be suffering from a disease or an insect. When you move them to a warmer room, remember to water them more often.
